Songs…

Music is a huge part of who I am.  I love music. I am not going to go into a long ramble and try to describe what music means to me…maybe someday…but if you write music you understand.  Many of the things I post on here will be song lyrics that I have written, maybe some rambles about my faith, or a list of books I have recently read.  But I am guessing lots of song lyrics.  So I figured I would start with a song I wrote yesterday.  I am leading this Sunday at my church, and many of the songs I write come out of going through the scripture that the Sunday service will be based on.  And sometimes they don’t…this one is kind of in-between.

I’ve broken up my heart
Pieces put to sale, I’m taking bids…
I’ve broken up my heart
There’s pieces you’ve not seen, pieces hid from all…

Am I all that I’ve done wrong?
Am I made of broken promises and love?
Is this you Oh Lord?  Is this you?
Is this your tender grace?

We’ve bowed before the world, chained ourselves to pride
We’ve stole your fame
We’ve walked on trails to lust; We’ve given them our eyes
We’ve caused all pain

Is there grace enough for wandering hearts?
God show me there is Grace enough!  Grace Enough!
Is your love enough, to forget sin?
Is this your tender grace?

I’ve broken up my heart
Pieces put to sale, I’ve taken bids
Sold what I have left, what does that leave you?
Again you’re last…

Are you the beautiful? The Holy one?
Are you grace and love? Is there enough?
Can you restore my faith, restore my love?
Is this your tender grace?

You are the beautiful, the Holy one!
You offer grace and love, you offer everyone!
Lord God restore our love, restore us now!
Come Lord Jesus Come, Jesus Come!

You are the beautiful, the Holy one, you are love.

….We are not bound by sin.  Sin does not dictate who we are.  It surely can.  But Grace is bigger than all that…it is big enough to free us from that bondage.  Jesus takes us from our broken, dirty state and offers of forgiveness.
